Aero-News Alert: Pakistani Airliner Down With 127 On Board

No Survivors Have Been Found At The Accident Scene

A Bohja Air 737 has gone down on approach to an airport in Islamabad, according to Pakistan's Civil Aviation Authority. All 127 people on board are thought to have been fatally injured in the accident.

The accident occurred about five nautical miles from Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Islamabad near the Chaklala Air Force Base. The weather was reported as cloudy with thunderstorms in the area, according to Geo TV, which also said that the flight data recorder has already been recovered at the accident scene. One witness said the airplane appeared to be on fire prior to the accident, but that has not been confirmed.

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has ordered an investigation into the accident.

The airplane was at least 24 years old, according to Bloomberg News, because Boeing reports on its website that the last delivery of a 737-200 was in 1988. Boeing said it would sent a technical team to Pakistan to assist in the investigation. The NTSB has "opened a channel of communication" with the Pakistani government, but has not yet said what the level of the Board's involvement will be.
