Lufthansa Offers Flight Academy Students “Take-off-Promise”

Train Today, Fly and Pay Tomorrow

Lufthansa Aviation Training GmbH—the wholly-owned, Munich-based flight-training subsidiary of Lufthansa Group and operator of the European Flight Academy flight school (EFA)—announced on 23 March 2023 that it now offers a special value proposition appositely dubbed Take-off-Promise.

By virtue of the program, student pilots enrolled at EFA will receive flight-crew contract offers from a Lufthansa Group airline within 24-months of completing their ground and flight training.

Should an offer not prove forthcoming, fifty-percent of the student’s training costs will be reimbursed by Lufthansa. The commitment—binding, immediately effective, and included in students’ initial contracts—applies retroactively under certain circumstances.

Lufthansa Aviation Training GmbH CEO Matthias Spohr stated: “We are so convinced of the good prospects that the pilot training at the European Flight Academy provides that we bring our Take-off-Promise to market. Not only does it provide our student pilots with fair and predictable prospects for an appealing job in the cockpit, but it simultaneously also provides investment security for the training costs. The impressive numbers of participants and the feedback we received at trade shows and our informational events show us that the job of a pilot has not lost any of its fascination and instead continues to be a dream career goal for many young people.”

Training at Lufthansa’s European Flight Academy spans 24-months—the didactic aspect occurring in Bremen, Germany or Zurich, Switzerland, and the practical aspect in Goodyear, Arizona, USA; Grenchen, Switzerland; and Rostock-Laage, Germany. For purpose of guaranteeing the highest possible standards of quality and safety, Lufthansa maintains a modern and standardized training fleet comprising various Diamond models (Europe), and other aircraft (U.S.).

Henceforth, training costs for Lufthansa student pilots will cover a comprehensive package of services. Students undertaking practical training in the U.S. will be billed for air travel and transfer to the United States as well as hotel accommodations in Goodyear, Arizona.

The cost for students training in Germany have been adjusted from 105,000 to 110,000. Students training in Switzerland will be responsible for costs adjusted from (Swiss Franc) 135,000 to 140,000. Academy training, in keeping with international convention, is set up as a self-pay model. Costs will be invoiced step-by-step in conjunction with training curricula.

In addition to private financing, European Flight Academy students may avail themselves of third-party financing options. Some participating financial institutions offer an innovative lending model known as an income-share agreement. Under such agreements, former student pilots, once employed, repay lenders an agreed-upon, fixed percentage of their income. Specific repayment amounts are contingent upon individual income—the higher the salary, the higher the remittance and vice versa.

Additionally, third-party lenders will offer traditional financing to academy students at attractive terms.
