AirTran Makes Bid On ATA Midway Gates

Price Tag: Almost $90 Million

Orlando-based AirTran says it will pay almost $90 million for bankrupt ATA's gates at Chicago's Midway Airport.

The deal is still subject to approval from the judge in ATA's bankruptcy case, as well as the Chicago Department of Aviation, which runs Midw

ay. AirTran executives say they expect the paperwork to be finished December 23rd.

Once complete, the deal would give AirTran access to as many as 12 of ATA's gates at the airport. That should happen after January 11th. Until then, according to the airline, ATA will continue operating from those gates.

As ANN reported, ATA filed for bankruptcy last month, telling the court that it had an agreement in place with AirTran to sell some of its gates and other assets for $87.6 million. Since then, the deal's worth has been revised upward to $89.9 million.
