Airborne 05.01.20: Oshkosh2020 Cancelled, Artemis Moon Landers, Snowbirds Tour

Also: HS Student Names Mars Heli, 787 Ops Resume in SC, Centennial College And Diamond A/C, Wings Over Charlotte Harbor

What much of aviation has feared, has come to pass... Oshkosh 2020 is a no-go. The ‘continuing uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic’ has forced EAA to cancel this year's event.

The 68th annual Experimental Aircraft Association fly-in convention was scheduled to be held on July 20-26, 2020. "We looked at every possibility over the past six weeks as to how EAA could move forward with AirVenture this year, because it is such an important reunion for the aviation community," said Jack J. Pelton, EAA CEO and Chairman of the Board. NASA has selected three U.S. companies to design and develop human landing systems (HLS) for the agency's Artemis program, one of which will land the first woman and next man on the surface of the Moon by 2024. NASA is on track for sustainable human exploration of the Moon for the first time in history. The human landing system awards combined value for all awarded contracts is $967 million for the 10-month base period. The Canadian Forces Snowbirds will cross the country to salute Canadians doing their part to fight the spread of COVID-19. This unique mission is being aptly dubbed 'Operation Inspiration.' The team’s signature nine-jet formation, with trailing white smoke, will fly over cities across the country starting in Nova Scotia this weekend and working west throughout the week. The team will release anticipated locations, routes, and times on their social media platforms each day. Flyovers will occur at an elevation no lower than 500 feet above all obstacles. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
