Sunrise Airways Welcomes New Stricter Safety Standards

New FDR Rules Adopted By Governments Of Haiti And The Dominican Republic

New safety standards recently adopted by the Civil Aviation Authorities in Haiti, Office National de l’Aviation Civile (OFNAC), and the Dominican Republic, Instituto Dominicano de Aviacion Civil (IDAC), align those countries with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 6 requirements. These regulations require all aircraft operating between Haiti and the Dominican Republic to be equipped with Flight Data Recorders (FDR).

Sunrise Airways said in a news release that it welcomes the new rules. “Any regulations adopted in the name of passenger safety are always going to be welcomed by Sunrise Airways,” said Philippe Bayard, President of Sunrise Airways. “We applaud the ICAO alignment decisions of OFNAC and IDAC as they are right in line with our uncompromising commitment to safety and our mission to elevate the aviation sector in Haiti to First World standards.”

Sunrise Airways is currently the only Haitian airline operating between Santo Domingo and Port-au-Prince in compliance with the new OFNAC and IDAC regulation. The carrier operates regular charter flights between Toussaint Louverture International Airport (PAP) in Port-au-Prince and La Isabella International Airport (JBQ) in Santo Domingo.

In July 2013, Sunrise Airways became the first-ever Haitian airline to join the Flight Safety Foundation (FSF), an international non-profit organization whose sole purpose is to provide impartial, independent, expert safety guidance and resources for the aviation and aerospace industry. Sunrise is also the only Haitian airline with its own dedicated Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility located at Cibao International Airport (STI) in Santiago, Dominican Republic.
