Dietz Art Exhibition Opens At EAA Museum

First Dietz Exhibit In Years

More than a hundred aviation and art enthusiasts gathered near the Wright Flyer in the EAA AirVenture Museum last week to join renowned aviation painter Jim Dietz for the opening of his art exhibit in the Museum's Gilbert H. Hansen Gallery. This is the artist's first major exhibit in several years.

During the reception Jim talked with guests about his paintings and signed several copies of Jay Broze's work Portraits of Combat: The World War II Art of James Dietz. Many of the forty-three richly colored paintings came from several private collections around the country. His latest work "Between Heaven & Hell," commissioned by Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson of New Zealand, is on display as well.

And He's Coming Back

Earlier that day the historical aviation artist, who began his career as a Los Angeles freelance illustrator in 1969, was on hand as an honorary judge for the 2003 EAA Sport Aviation Art Competition. Jim will return to EAA during Oshkosh 2003.

The exhibit will remain on display in the museum until August 4, or just after Oshkosh. In the meantime, signed copies of Portraits of Combat and several signed prints are available for purchase through the Museum's gift shop.
