ISS Crew Prepares For Spacewalk

Krikalev Gets Ready To Break Record

As the Russian commander of the International Space Station gets ready to celebrate a remarkable milestone in space, Sergei Krikalev and Flight Engineer John Phillips are preparing for their mission's first spacewalk.

Scheduled for Thursday at 1455 EDT, the spacewalkers will remove and checkout science experiments, install a video camera and relocate a grapple fixture.

A Russian carbon removal system shut down Thursday afternoon on the Station. An American carbon removal system has been activated while Russian specialists are analyzing the failed system.

Krikalev will become the longest-serving human in space on Tuesday at 1:44 a.m. EDT. The current record holder is Cosmonaut Sergei Avdeyev who spent 748 days in space.
