Rumor: SpaceShip Seen Flying

We wish we could have solidly confirmed this for press time, but you know how those guys in Mojave (CA) are -- hard to find! Our calls to friends at the X-Prize Foundation were made too late in the day -- but this is such hot news, and it's so believable, that we really didn't want to wait.

So, we're bringing it to you as a very plausible RUMOR.

We have an ANN News-Spy, though, who swears he saw the X-Prize contender from Burt Rutan's Scaled Composites flying on Thursday.

Since we know, and can confirm, that SS1 is so close to flying (including glide rehearsals on July 11), we're urging you to keep really close track of the progress over the California desert.

Handicappers are putting the Rutan effort at the top of those who are vying for the ten-million-dollar encouragement to private space travel.
