Boeing May Double 767 Production In Everett, WA

Major Order From A Legacy Carrier Is Rumored

Boeing is reportedly looking at the feasibility of doubling its production of 767 airliners in Everett, WA amid rumors that a major legacy carrier may order 50-100 of the airplanes.

The Puget Sound Business Journal reports that the planemaker is getting input from both employees and suppliers about their ability to deliver twice the number of airplanes as are currently coming off the line. While Boeing is officially mum on the report, there have been rumors that a major carrier ... United Continental is specifically mentioned ... may order between 50 to 100 of the airplanes.

Boeing has not produced a passenger variant of the 767 for years. If the order comes through, it could provide work on the 767 production line for several years.

United currently operates 51 Boeing 767s, according to the report. Sixteen of those airplanes are 25 years old, according to Planespotters.net. The carrier is also flying 77 Boeing 757s that average about 20 years old.

There may be a market for additional 767 freighters as well. Some analysts believe Boeing may be working on a deal with Amazon to build 100 767 freighters for the online giant's Prime Air cargo fleet.
