Two Injured, One Critically, In Arizona LSA Accident

Teenage Passenger Was Considering Learning To Fly

A Remos LSA went down Saturday morning at Marana Regional Airport (KAVQ) in Arizona, critically injuring the 46-year-old pilot. The teenage girl who was also in the plane suffered lesser injuries, and was admitted to University Medical Center in Tucson.

The pilots' injuries were considered life-threatening. The teenager was reportedly considering learning to fly, and the flight was to be her introduction to the activity we all so enjoy.

Witnesses said the plane had just departed when they saw it make a steep right turn and circle around, going down in a field next to the runway, according to the Associated Press. Television Station KGUN reports that a medical helicopter crew based at Marana Regional immediately went to assist the two occupants of the plane. The girl's mother was reportedly at the airport, and stayed with her until she was transported by air to the hospital.

The teen reportedly suffered facial fractures, as well as other broken bones. Authorities said she could be released from the hospital early this week.

The accident closed the uncontrolled airport for about an hour before one of the facility's two runways was re-opened to traffic.
