Cessna Downing Reveals Marijuana Crop

You Know You're Having A Bad Day When...

Police called to the scene of an aircraft accident in the backyard of a home in Baton Rouge, LA found more than a dented Cessna -- they also found 14 potted marijuana plants.

The incident began Wednesday morning, when the Cessna 206 came down near the home, and a backyard apartment. Pilot Robin Tendolkar, who was not injured in the accident, said the plane lost power while on approach to land at nearby Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport (BRT).

The aircraft grazed treetops before impacting an oak tree, causing it to spin and come to rest, nose down, on top of a downed tree branch.

"It was an almost perfect crash," said Clarence McGarner, a Baton Rouge police detective who witnessed the accident, to the Baton Rouge Advocate. McGarner called police headquarters while his friend, Donald Ray Henry, rushed to the scene. Henry helped the pilot push out a broken window, and pulled him to safety.

As police officers investigated the plane crash, they stumbled upon the marijuana plants, growing near the backyard apartment. Officers later arrested apartment resident Betty McManus on a felony count of growing marijuana -- and issued a misdemeanor summons to Darryl Jenkins, who also lived in the small apartment.

"You never know when you’re going to have a plane crash in your backyard," police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely quipped.

The FAA and NTSB are investigating the accident. Tendolkar wouldn't comment after the mishap.
