Two Identified In Fatal Accident In Virginia

Plane Went Down About 70 Miles From Richmond

The two people who were fatally injured when the Jihlavan KP-5 ASA light-sport airplane they were aboard went down Tuesday in central Virginia have been identified.

The Washington Post reports that, according to the Virginia State Police, the two on board were 57-year-old Charles Neal Caldwell of Apopka, FL, who was piloting the airplane, and an 81-year-old passenger, John Joseph Quinn of Culpeper, VA.

The airplane went down Tuesday in Rhoadesville, VA, about 70 miles northwest of Richmond.

The Aviation Safety Network reports that, according to photographic evidence, the plane impacted terrain in a farm field in what appeared to be a near-vertical descent.

According to FAA records, the registered owner of the airplane is Joe Horta of San Luis Obispo, CA. The airplane was issued an airworthiness certificate in October of 2008.
