USAF Thunderbirds, F-35s Scheduled To Fly At Sun 'n Fun 2020

Event Scheduled For March 31 To April 5

Organizers of the Sun 'n Fun Aerospace Expo have announced some of the performers that have already been confirmed for the air shows at the annual spring event.

The USAF Thunderbirds will perform at the central Florida show, scheduled for March 31 to April 5 2020 in Lakeland, FL. The Air Force is also making its newest 5th generation stealth fighter, the F-35, available for flight demonstrations for the first time at the show, according to a report from the Lakeland Ledger.

Greg Gibson, chief marketing officer and airshow director for Sun ’n Fun said this is the first time the F-35 will be flying during the airshow. It has appeared in previous years on static display. This year, an F-35 will perform a solo aerial display, Gibson said.

“Having both demonstration teams as part of our 2020 Sun ’n Fun airshow lineup is a privilege,” Gibson said.

This will be the first appearance by the Thunderbirds at Sun 'n Fun since 2015. They had been scheduled in 2018, but the performance was cancelled due to an accident that occurred the week prior to Sun 'n Fun which fatally injured Maj. Stephen Del Bagno.

Other performers will be announced as they are confirmed.
