AD: British Aerospace Regional Aircraft Airplanes

AD NUMBER: 2017-15-06

PRODUCT: British Aerospace Regional Aircraft Model HP.137 Jetstream Mk.1, Jetstream Series 200 and 3101, and Jetstream Model 3201 airplanes that would supersede AD 97-10-05.

ACTION: Final Rule.

SUMMARY:  This AD results from mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by an aviation authority of another country to identify and correct an unsafe condition on an aviation product.

The MCAI describes the unsafe condition as cracks in the main landing gear (MLG) fitting at the pintle to cylinder interface, which could cause failure of the MLG during takeoff and landing.

DATES: This AD is effective August 31, 2017.

COST: The FAA estimates this AD will affect 26 products of U.S. registry. They also estimate that it would take about 6 work-hours per product to comply with the basic requirements of this AD. The average labor rate is $85 per work-hour.

Based on these figures, we estimate the cost of this AD on U.S. operators to be $13,260, or $510 per product.

In addition, they estimate that any necessary follow-on actions would take about 1 work-hour and require parts costing $5,000, for a cost of $5,085 per product, but have no way of determining the number of products that may need these actions.
