Family Members To View Comair 5191 Wreckage

District Judge Grants Permission For Inspection

Some family members of those killed aboard Comair 5191 asked for permission to look at the wreckage. On Tuesday, a US District Court Judge approved the motion -- to which Comair did not object -- filed in federal court by Cincinnati Lawyer Stan Chesley.

Judge Karl Forester also ordered Comair to preserve all records pertaining to Flight 5191 which crashed after taking off on a too-short runway at Lexington's Blue Grass Airport on August 27th.

Meanwhile, Chicago attorney Robert Clifford, representing the family of Rebecca Adams, wants his experts to inspect the airport runway and facilities. An article in the Lexington Herald-Leader says Blue Grass Airport officials will allow any inspections related to the crash without objection. The concern is that evidence may be destroyed accidentally during any further construction activities at the airport.

Other attorneys are pressing for more information from local and federal investigators. Stan Chesley, a Cincinnati attorney representing the family of JoAnn Wright, says the taped transcripts of communication between the flight and the tower should be released immediately.

49 of the 50 people on board were killed when the CRJ plowed through an airport perimeter fence, hit a berm and then burned at the edge of nearby woods. The NTSB's investigation continues.
