Modern Aviation Acquires Sheltair FOK and FRG Operations

Sheltair Employees Retain Jobs

Founded in 2017 and funded by New York-based private equity firm Tiger Infrastructure Partners, Modern Aviation is a growing FBO network platform actively and aggressively engaged in pursuing FBO acquisitions and development opportunities throughout North America and the Caribbean. Modern Aviation’s end-game is the establishment of a national FBO chain with clout enough to give Signature, Atlantic, Million Air, TAG, and Clay Lacy runs for their respective and considerable monies.

On 01 September 2022 Modern Aviation announced the closure of its acquisitions of the FBO assets and operations at Francis S. Gabreski Airport (FOK) and Republic Airport (FRG) from Sheltair Aviation, the nation’s largest privately-owned aviation network. The agreement has received all requisite government approvals, and authorizes Modern Aviation to take over FBO operations at FOK and FRG.

Modern Aviation CEO, Mark Carmen states: “We are excited to be closing on our last two acquisitions of Sheltair locations in New York. On behalf of our whole team, I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new teammates and customers to the Modern Aviation family.”

In a move refreshingly unbecoming an entity about the business of aggressive acquisition, Modern Air has offered positions to Sheltair employees otherwise apt to have been displaced by the deal.

Mr. Carmen continues: “We believe that increasing our presence in New York will allow us to better serve our customers in the Northeast. All five of our bases in New York have tremendous growth potential. We look forward to building long-term relationships with Suffolk County and its airport administration and the New York State Department of Transportation and its airport administration and investing in the growth of the airports and communities they serve.”

Sheltair president Lisa Holland remarked: “Modern Aviation’s team of professionals share our commitment to flight safety, service, and a corporate ethic that consistently puts customers first. It should come as no surprise that they have retained our Farmingdale and West Hampton staff to ensure a seamless experience for passengers and pilots and a reputation for outstanding professionalism.”

With the acquisition of Sheltair's FOK and FRG operations, Modern Aviation’s FBO network numbers a cool one-dozen North American locations. In all, Modern Aviation purview now encompasses: Wilmington, Delaware (ILM), Denver Centennial (APA), Seattle Boeing Field (BFI), Puerto Rico’s Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport (SIG), New York Kennedy (JFK), New York LaGuardia (LGA), New York Long Island (ISP), New York Westhampton Beach (FOK), New York Farmingdale (FRG), Sacramento Mather (MHR), Sacramento Executive (SAC), and Sacramento International (SMF).
