LoPresti Speed Merchants Announces New Polymer Treatment For Planes

"Knot Wax" May Increase Cruise Speed Three Knots Or More

LoPresti Speed Merchants recently announced what could be one of the most innovative speed mods on the market -- and, it helps your aircraft stay looking great, too. Knot Wax, a two-part catalyzed polymer formulated for aircraft surfaces, is applied much like an epoxy coating.

To use the product, first an authorized LoPresti merchant cleans the aircraft, and then applies the polymer base with a soft applicator. The hardener then is sprayed on, which catalyzes the material immediately. After a light buffing, Knot Wax begins a hardening process that continues for up to 7 days.

The Knot Wax molecules are so hard and so small, hundreds of them cover a single molecule of paint, coating and protecting it completely. Representatives with LoPresti tell ANN that unlike conventional waxes and polishes, Knot Wax does not wash off or thin out over time. It also provides complete surface protection against corrosion, salt, mold, mildew and UV damage.

"As a demonstration, we pour fresh battery acid on any aluminum part coated with Knot Wax," said Curt LoPresti, CEO of LoPresti SpeedMods. "It streams off the surface with absolutely no damage."

Knot Wax is completely silicon free, can be applied to rubber as well as cloth and needs no reapplication for up to a year. Jim LoPresti, drag reduction specialist at SpeedMods, also said that the additional reduction in laminar separation has shown an improvement of three or more knots at cruise in most applications.
