Star Trek's George Takei Joins Astronaut Buzz Aldrin To Host Apollo 11 Anniversary
BEAM ME UP, SCOTTY!
OK, we know that line was never really uttered on the original Star Trek, but it may well be when Star Trek: The Original Series' George Takei (Sulu) and Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) joins legendary astronaut Buzz Aldrin on July 23, 2016 to celebrate the anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon mission during a black tie affair right where it all started -- Kennedy Space Center, FL.
Hosted by these beloved space travelers, both real and fictional, as well as several other special guests and astronauts, the evening will include a reception, a special photo opportunity, a dinner underneath one of the only remaining Saturn V rockets in the world (the largest rocket ever made and the likes which took Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Aldrin to the moon in 1969) and an engaging program with Aldrin and Takei teleporting guests back to a time when space travel transitioned from fantasy to reality.
"We are so fortunate to live in a time where heroes like Buzz Aldrin walk among us," said ShareSpace Foundation's Executive Director Linn LeBlanc. "This gala will be a fascinating evening with space legends and Hollywood icons coming together to discuss from different perspectives one of humankind's greatest achievements ever: the first time man set foot on the moon."
The gala is being held on the 47th anniversary of Apollo 11's splashdown on earth and the 50th anniversary of Star Trek.
Tickets range from $750 - $1,800 offering the public the chance to boldly go where no man has gone before. More information and tickets can be obtained at sharespace.org/gala or (321) 783-6836.
Event proceeds benefit Buzz Aldrin's ShareSpace Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to igniting children's passions for science, technology, engineering, arts, and math by providing interactive and engaging hands-on educational activities.
