NORAD F-16s Intercept TFR Violator Near Mar-A-Lago

Private Pilot Was Unaware Of The Restricted Airspace

Two NORAD F-16s intercepted a GA airplane that had violated a TFR in south Florida near President Trump's Mar-a-Lago home while he was visiting over the holidays.

The Palm Beach Post reports that a NORAD spokesman said the jets, stationed at Homestead Air Reserve Base, were already patrolling the area when they were notified of the TFR violation. The private aircraft was about 29 miles north of Mar-a-Lago when it was intercepted at about 1624 local time Sunday. It was escorted to the North Palm Beach County General Aviation Airport.

The NORAD spokesman told the paper that the pilot said he was not aware of the TFR. The FAA will determine whether the violation warrants a fine or other disciplinary action.

The Sunday intercept was the only reported TFR violation at Mar-a-Lago during Trump's holiday visit.
