US Air Incursion Over Pakistan?

Residents, Pakistani Officials, Disagree On Whether It Really Happened

Did the hunt for Osama bin Laden and his followers lead a couple of American military aircraft operating in Afghanistan to stray across the border and overfly Pakistan? Residents along the border say yes... but their own government begs to differ.

"They hovered around border areas for two hours," said one resident of Bibi Kaley, in the relatively lawless Waziristan region of Pakistan.

But a Pakistani military spokesman in Peshwar denied there was any incursion.

"No such report of airspace violation was received from the North Waziristan Agency," the spokesman told the Pakistan Times.

Osama bin Laden is thought to be hiding from US-led forces in the border region between Afghanistan and Pakistan. But tensions among the predominantly Muslim population there have kept US and Pakistani forces from conducting joint search operations.
