LTE/RF Capable Command and Control Uplink Now Available for Manufacturers, Operators
Avionics manufacturer uAvionix announced an updated product line for uncrewed aircraft to provide enhanced Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) Command and Control (C2).
The SkyLine C2 management platform ecosystem is headlined by the firm's "muLTElink", a cutely-abbreviated way of describing a combination LTE and radio-based uplink for roving UAVs. While the flight equipment for drones continues its march onward, recent developments seem to be aiming for enhanced command over such aircraft while deployed outside immediate RF range.
Increasing frequency of BVLOS approvals around the world has added fuel to the fires of competition, and uAvionix is jumping into the fray with their own hybrid system for those looking to maximize their UAV’s range. Their SkyLine C2 features dynamic frequency selection throughout each flight, evaluating and selecting the best frequency spectrum for use at any given moment. Whether the winning selection is LTE, part of the unlicensed Industrial, Scientific, & Medical (ISM) band, or aviation protected C Band, the SkyLine can provide rapid, seamless switching in a single low-SWaP avionic device. While in flight, the unit provides a "self-healing" C2 network with sufficient path and link diversity, lessening the chances of lost comms while navigating BVLOS across complex terrain.
Along with the SkyLink C2 comes the ARS radio options, updated and refined to provide cutting edge performance and slick integration with the rest of the uAvionix lineup. The SkyLink915micro takes up the mantle of the former microLink, with the SkyLink915 offers a more robust form factor for Lemo connections and hardened installations. Additional revisions went into the brand's lineup of GRS radios, with a pair of new portable LTE-compatible SkyLine antennas.
