SpaceX Satellite Launch Delayed Until After ISS Mission

Says More Time Is Needed To Get Launch Pad 39A Ready For Use

The planned launch of an EchoStar communications satellite has been delayed until the middle of February to allow more time for SpaceX To ready Launch Complex 39A for its missions.

The EchoStar launch had been planned for Sunday, but SpaceX said that it was pushing that launch until after it boosts cargo to the International Space Station, which is planned for February 15. "This schedule change allows time for additional testing of ground systems ahead of the CRS-10 mission," SpaceX said in a statement.

The website The Seeker reports that SpaceX is reserving Pad 39B for launching its Falcon Heavy rockets when they are ready to fly. Pad 39A is, or course, where so many shuttle flights lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center.

The launch complex at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station that had been the primary launch facility for SpaceX is still under repairs following the explosion of a Falcon 9 rocket on the pad last September.
