Cold Weather Package Available On Variety Of LSA
The balmy climate and warm sun of Sebring, FL may seem an
unusual place to introduce an airplane package better suited for
much colder temperatures, but that didn't stop IndUS Aviation and
Tanis Aircraft Products from announcing their partnership to warm
the engines and cockpits of a variety of LSA.
"Light Sport Aircraft are not generally thought of as being cold
weather aircraft," says Scott Severen, IndUS' Director of
Marketing. "We're excited that an industry leader like Tanis
selected our aircraft to introduce their expertise into the LSA
market."
"Tanis is custom designing a system beyond just heating the oil
sump," added Tanis president Bob Krueger. "To be really cold
weather capable, pilot comfort, panel temperature and other items
must be considered as well. Tanis is gathering temperature data at
various points on the engine and airframe in flight and on the
ground. This data will be used as a basis to measure performance
for enhancements to the Thorpedo to add the ability for safe and
reliable cold weather activity."
The goal was to provide optimum conditions throughout the entire
airplane, from the power plant to the cockpit. Both companies say
that thermal imaging provided dramatic proof of the system's
success.
"The Thorpedo is the first LSA to undergo extensive in-house
design, testing and calibration to develop a complete aircraft
system," Krueger continued. The company even added an insulated
prop and engine blanket for static protection and heat
retention.
Thanks to the work on the IndUS Thorpedo LSA, the new Tanis
complete aircraft preheat systems are now available for a wide
variety of light sport aircraft, providing heat for engine and oil.
Preheat is known to prolong engine life and conserve fuel.
An IndUS Thorpedo with the new Tanis preheating system are on
display during the US Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring, FL from
January 22-25
