Details Emerging In Ohio Convair 440 Accident

Airplane Was Carrying Automotive Parts To Various Locations Around The Country

The Convair 440 that went down At Toledo Express Airport in Ohio last Wednesday was carrying a load of automotive parts to be delivered to various locations around the country, according to Ohio Authorities.

The Toledo Blade reports that, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the aircraft was owned by Barker Automotive Inc. it was carrying parts that had been manufactured in Mexico and shipped to Laredo, TX for distribution.

The two pilots on board the aircraft were fatally injured. They have been identified as Douglas Taylor, 72, and Donald Peterson, Sr., 69, both of Laredo, TX. The flight, which originated in Laredo, made a stop in Millington, TN before continuing on to Toledo.

NTSB investigators on the scene said the 62-year-old plane was not equipped with a cockpit voice recorder or flight data recorder, which NTSB spokesman Terry Williams said was "unusual". He said the board will be looking into whether it is normal for such unscheduled flights to be conducted without the so-called "black box" devices.

The NTSB is expected to release a preliminary report on the accident in the next several days.
