Airborne 03.05.18: Falcon 6X!, Sonex Turns 20, Robinson Revs Up

Also: Kaman K-MAX, ARTEX ELT 4000, NATA’s Second 2018 Industry Town Hall, A350 XWB Debuts

Dassault Aviation has unveiled the Falcon 6X. This new 5,500 nm aircraft will make its first flight in early 2021 and begin deliveries in 2022.

Pratt & Whitney Canada's PurePower PW800 engines have been selected to power the Falcon 6X. The 6X is largely based on the Falcon 5X aerodynamics and system features which were validated during the 5X preliminary flight test program. The Falcon 6X has a top speed of Mach 0.90 and a maximum range of 5,500 nautical miles. Last week marked the 20th Anniversary of Sonex Aircraft! On February 28, 2008, John Monnett lifted-off from Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, WI in a completely new aircraft: Sonex serial number 1, or "SX1". While certainly not the beginning of veteran homebuilt aircraft designer, builder and pilot John Monnett's journey, the first flight of SX1 marked the beginning of the Sonex Story for us and thousands of others worldwide. Robinson Helicopter produced 305 helicopters in 2017, with the R44 leading the way with 174, ranking as the world’s best-selling helicopter according to GAMA’s General Aviation Aircraft Shipment 2017 Year End Report. Seventy-seven R66s came off the line and, according to data supplied by Rolls Royce, the R66 fleet logged approximately 185,000 hours in 2017, bringing its total fleet hours to 735,000. Cadet production was steady at twenty, and the R22 came in at 34. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
