TrueNorth Certifies Datalink Unit Aboard European Falcon 2000EX

Modular DLU Integrates Seamlessly With Honeywell Primus EASy Flight Deck

TrueNorth Avionics, Inc., has received EASA certification for its open-architecture Simphoné (pronounced 'symphony') Datalink Unit (DLU), which enables flight crews to send and receive ACARS and AFIS cockpit communications worldwide via Iridium's low-cost short-burst data service. The Simphoné DLU installation was performed by Jet Aviation of Basel, Switzerland, aboard a Falcon 2000EX aircraft equipped with a Honeywell Primus Epic EASy Flight Deck.

"While this was the first opportunity we've had to interface our DLU with Honeywell's advanced EASy Flight Deck, the installation and certification process were, as we expected, completely uneventful. You might say that it was 'EASy'," said Mark van Berkel, TrueNorth's president.

Simphoné DLU

The compact Simphoné DLU weighs just 1.6 lb, requires no cooling and installs with a single connector. The smallest such datalink solution available, the Simphoné DLU has its own Iridium antenna to avoid limiting Iridium cabin communications. With its global coverage, the new Simphoné DLU outperforms conventional ground-based VHF networks and is compatible with all current and planned ACARS/AFIS datalink systems, including those from Honeywell, Universal and Rockwell Collins.
