Reno Air Race Accident Memory Cards Yield No Significant Information

Data Chips Too Badly Damaged For Video To Be Captured

While the investigation into the September 16, 2011 crash of a vintage P-51D Mustang aircraft at the Reno Air Races in Reno, NV remains ongoing, the NTSB said Friday that they are unable to retrieve any on-board video from the badly damaged components and memory cards found in the debris field.

A memory card taken from the on-board telemetry unit of the accident aircraft is still being examined to determine if data can be retrieved.

Additional telemetry data that was transmitted from the accident aircraft to the race crew on the ground is also still being examined.  Any information recovered from the card, and any telemetry data will be included in the public docket.

NTSB investigators continue to review the dozens of videos and hundreds of photographs provided to them by spectators at the air race. Additional updates of factual information will be provided as it is developed.
