Airborne-Flight Training 06.17.20: Purdue Degree, eTrainer, Virtual Med Exam

Also: Transport Canada Updates, Flight Path Museum, AMA 2020 Scholarships, SEMSU Flt Degree

Purdue University Global has launched its professional flight program and will begin training students through its flight training affiliate, Sterling Flight Training LLC, this fall. Students may now apply to enroll in the online Bachelor of Science in Professional Flight program.

Those accepted into the School of Aviation program will complete their Bachelor of Science degree courses online through Purdue Global, which includes aviation and general education classes, while completing professional flight training at Sterling Flight Training in Jacksonville, Florida. Though expected several months ago, EASA has finally announced the certification of an electric airplane, the Pipistrel Velis Electro, the first type certification world-wide of a fully electric aircraft. “This is an exciting breakthrough,” said EASA Executive Director Patrick Ky. “This is the first electric aircraft EASA has certified but it will certainly not be the last, as the aviation industry pursues new technologies to reduce noise and emissions and to improve the sustainability of aviation.” The Velis Electro is a two-seater aircraft intended primarily for pilot training. Transport Canada Civil Aviation is shaking things up a bit -- again. Most recently; the requirement for the applicable knowledge (written) test to have been passed before a flight test for either an Instrument Rating, or an initial Flight Instructor Rating can be conducted has been temporarily suspended until January 15, 2021. "The purpose of the exemption is to allow candidates that have not yet written the requisite written examination for an Instrument Rating, or any of the initial Flight Instructor Ratings to be accepted to attempt the flight test required for the issuance of an Instrument Rating, or any of the initial Flight Instructor Ratings until January 15, 2021, as a temporary measure..." All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
