Aero-Craft 101 With Tom Turner: Deciphering 'The Rule Of Tens'

Accurately flying an IFR approach  is all about... just that, flying the airplane. Especially as you get closer to your destination (and to the ground) proper pitch, heading, and airspeed control is crucial --- and too often, pilots are most concerned with 'chasing' the needles, instead of heeding basic piloting skills. That can result in having to go missed -- or something worse.

In today's Aero-Craft 101 feature, Tom Turner explains a technique that can help pilots -- especially newly minted IFR pilots, or those used to coupling the autopilot in on the approach -- to stay on heading and altitude at the missed approach point. Tom calls it "The Rule Of Tens" -- and it may be just the thing to insure you won't be at sixes and sevens the next time you fly an IFR approach.

• ANN's Daily 'ASR' Feature Aero-Cast: ANN will be offering a Daily 'Aero-News Special Report.' This involves a more in-depth view of a story or two that dominated (or will be dominating) the day's news. Far more detailed than any single story in our standard ANN Daily Reports, this is a solid chance to get a close look at the stories and topics that matter. ASR features may include exclusive interviews with Aviation's Newsmakers, ANN's Special Investigative reports and solid analysis of the stories that will have undeniable impact on the world of aviation and aerospace.
