For quite a few years, the Kitfox breed was nearly as ubiquitous
a name as any in aviation. And while many might argue that their
best days are behind them, we beg to disagree. Excellent new
ownership, and a principled business plan seem destined to remake
this company and its products for years to come. Kitfox Aircraft
LLC provided ANN's Aero-TV crews with a first glimpse of its new
Kitfox Super Sport S-LSA, which was formally unveiled last
month.
The Kitfox design began 25 years ago and has evolved into an
American classic. Over 4,500 kits have been delivered into over 42
countries around the world. Now with the latest development of the
Kitfox S-LSA, even those who do not want to build one can enjoy
flying a highly-accomplished, well-regarded airplane. Kitfox tells
ANN the evolution in the design "has resulted in an aircraft that
is as at home in the back country as it is at your local FBO."
The Kitfox Super Sport offers many fun flying characteristics...
including one of the quickest roll rates in the LSA category, agile
handling, great stability, superb slow speed control, a large
baggage area that can handle up to 150 lbs., remarkable 360 degree
in-flight visibility, side by side seating and dual flight
controls.
A hallmark feature of the Kitfox is its quick folding wings,
taking one person less than five minutes. Kitfox also notes the
aircraft also has an impeccable safety record, with over one
million flight hours accumulated with no in-flight structural
failures recorded. Base price for the US-built Kitfox Super-Sport
S-LSA is $83,495.
As ANN has reported, Kitfox Aircraft LLC has been owned and
operated since 2006 by John and Debra McBean. Along with a passion
for and intricate knowledge of the Kitfox design, the McBeans bring
many years of aviation and business experience to the company.
