Plane Impacts Other Aircraft, Hangar At Fullerton, CA Airport

Two Injured After Pilot Lost Control During Takeoff

The pilot of a Siai Marchetti SF-260 lost control of the aircraft during takeoff from the Fullerton, CA municipal airport (KFUL) Wednesday and impacted three parked airplanes and a hangar.

According to a statement released by the city the Fullerton Fire Department received a call of an airplane crashing at the Fullerton airport at 5:59 p.m. local time. A private single-engine Siai Marchetti SF-260 lost control upon takeoff, veered across the runway striking 3 parked airplanes on the ground before coming to stop in a hangar.

Fortunately the pilot and the passenger sustained only minor injuries and were treated on scene, declining medical transport. The experienced pilot was on a routine flight. The aircraft owned by Air Combat USA sustained major damage.

The Los Angeles Times reports that fire officials said the aircraft narrowly avoided hitting a large fuel tank on the airport grounds.
