Standard call-outs
require "Gear-Down" for landing... right? That is, unless you're
preparing for a water landing. Operations for retractable geared
aircraft do require a fair amount of vigilance on the part of the
pilot, but we'll admit that it gets downright confusing when
transitioning between ground and water ops... and so forth. Believe
us, we know...
ANN's E-I-C found that out years ago in a lovely little sport
Amphib... and while he didn't do any damage (having bellied in on a
Full Lotus inflatable Amphib float in the grass after aborting a
water landing on the nearby lake), it does give one additional
respect for the care one needs to take EVERY time they commit to a
landing -- on land or water.
So... a word to the wise for amphib flyers -- do not just check
your gear but check your gear and the proper configuration for your
intended operation.
