TFR Put In Place Over Hillary Clinton Campaign Re-Start

Unusual That Such A Move Would Be Done For A Presidential Candidate

When Hillary Clinton held a rally for a second campaign kick-off in New York  City, the FAA did something it rarely does for a candidate ... established a TFR for the airspace over the area.

ABC News reports that the VIP TFR was put in place Saturday over the east side of Manhattan in New York City for the event.

While such VIP TFRs are common when the President, Vice President, or other high-ranking officials are visiting an area, it is highly unusual for such a TFR to be established for a candidate, according to a spokesman for AOPA.

The Secret Service told ABC News in a statement that it "establishes temporary flight restrictions in advance of protective visits" but offered no further explanation. The TFR meant that sightseeing helicopters that often fly over the area were unable to fly their normal routes Saturday.

When Mrs. Clinton was First Lady, TFRs were not put in place over areas where she was speaking. Nor are they established for current First Lady Michelle Obama, unless she is accompanied by the President.
