Black Hawk Makes Emergency Landing Next To TN Home

No Injuries, But Minor Damage To House And Helo

An MH-60 Black Hawk helicopter flying from Fort Eustis, VA to Fort Campbell, KY was forced to make an emergency landing in a Sullivan County private residence on the outskirts of Bristol, TN Wednesday.

The helo (type shown above) was carrying two pilots from the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment at Fort Campbell and a civilian passenger, according to the US Army Special Operations Command.

The homeowner, Trudy Wood, was home at the time and described what she heard as an "explosion," according to the Associated Press.

There were no reports of injuries and minor damage was reported to the Blackhawk and the property.

The cause is under investigation, said Lt. Col. Tim Nye with Special Operations Command in Fort Bragg, NC.

"They're supposed to be sending somebody in a couple hours to come out and secure the site," Said Sullivan County Sheriff's Office spokesman Capt. Keith Elton.

Technical inspectors from the USASOC are en-route to conduct a thorough mechanical inspection of the helicopter. After further evaluation, a determination will be made on when and how to transport the helicopter to a military facility.

Elton said he was told the incident was described to him by officials as a forced landing, as opposed to an emergency landing.
