Textron Looking To Trim Workforce

Hopes To Achieve Goals With Early Retirements, Service Center Closings

Textron plans to close two service centers and offer early retirements to some of its workers as it attempts to make its operations more efficient.

The Wichita Eagle reports that the two service centers to be closed are in Atlanta, GA and New Castle, DE.  In a statement released Thursday, the company said that the closings and the early retirement packages are an effort to "improve the company’s cost competitiveness."

The company did not say how many workers would be affected by the moves, or how many early retirements would be offered. But they will be offered company-wide, not only to employees in Wichita, according to the report.

The two closed service centers will be replaced by mobile support operations. Textron said in the statement that the moves will align customer service locations with market demand.

Textron said in a recent Securities and Exchange Commission filing that it was taking certain actions "in order to improve overall operating efficiency across Textron."
