Flightwave Aerospace Introduces New Jupiter Tricopter UAS

Drone Compared To A 'Tough-As-Nails Pickup Truck'

FlightWave Aerospace has launched its new Jupiter tricopter UAS. The company says the drone is reminiscent of a “tough-as-nails pickup truck,” designed for missions where durability, stamina and control are required.

The UAS provides users with a “smooth flying experience,” FlightWave says, thanks to the company’s tilt-pod technology, which was announced earlier this year. The UAS also has the same engineering that provided precision control for FlightWave’s Edge-130 UAS; this time, in a wingless craft, making it perfect for indoor missions where precision in tight spaces is crucial.

“It’s an industrial-grade tool to get hard jobs done,” FlightWave says.

According to FlightWave, in order for a quadcopter to reposition itself, it by design “literally has to fall out of the sky,” dipping and compensating for the dip on a repeated basis. “Falling while trying to move forward, back, left or right requires more energy to power up the opposing rotors to “catch” the fall. It’s a highly inefficient way to fly,” the company explains.

Leveraging the power of FlightWave’s tilt-pod, autopilot and power management systems, the Jupiter UAS “revolutionizes the flying experience,” the company says.

The Jupiter UAS is a result of FlightWave's quest to respond to two pain points that its customers wanted addressed. One of the pain points is the ability to lift a lot of weight, and the other is the capacity to stay in the air for a long time. “Jupiter tricopter is specifically designed for pilots who need to lift more and fly longer on their missions,” FlightWave says.

With this in mind, the Jupiter UAS has four crucial components—a “super-sized battery; super-optimized power management; super-precise tilt-pods,” and it is “super-economical”—that help address the needs of its customers. “The Jupiter tricopter is a small footprint, heavy lift, long-endurance and highly balanced craft that hits all the sweet spots of an industrial user,” FlightWave says. “The Jupiter tricopter is a rugged, maneuverable, versatile drone with a lot of endurance.”

Ideal for operations such as warehouse work, security surveillance, public safety and mining, the Jupiter tricopter uses FlightWave’s open-source platform integration, allowing pilots to customize their missions, and add new sensors and software that can be flown on the new UAS.
