Company will Hold 4 Divisions to Focus on Avionics, Uncrewed systems, AAM, and Training
Airo will merge with a special purpose acquisition company to kickstart its growth and "address high growth market trends across the aviation & aerospace ecosystem."
The merger agreement provides a pathway for Airo to become the AIRO Group, a publicly listed company. The Group will hold 4 key divisions: Advanced Avionics, Electric Air Mobility, Uncrewed Air Systems, and Training. Each will focus on the future aerospace and defense markets along their line of focus.
The Advanced Avionics division will primarily work through its brand, Aspen Avionics in the general and business aviation markets. While developing the Aspen line, they'll assist other Airo divisions as they accelerate development of Air Mobility equipment. That division is about 300 flight hours into its certification process with Transport Canada as a Transport Category Rotorcraft.
The Uncrewed Air Systems arm will continue to work on BVLOS special mission drones, in addition to specialized sensor payloads and close-quarter/GPS denial systems. The Airo Training Division will "support filling the enormous gaps in civil pilot availability and at the same time, bring a curriculum that bridges the divide between uncrewed, minimally crewed, and crewed aviation."
“Operators are looking for a pedigree of certification and safety as well as robust, dynamic capabilities, efficiencies, and quiet operations,” says Airo CEO, Joe Burns. “Airo is proud to have received numerous pre-order commitments as well as multiple US DoD contracts aimed at optimizing eVTOL speed and minimizing acoustic signatures for quiet operations. Aircraft certification is driven out of AIRO's Electric Mobility Office in Montreal, and the certification will be validated through the Federal Aviation Administration and European Aviation Safety Authority shortly thereafter.”
