Airborne 08.24.20: Airport Harmed By Storm, USAF 'Flying Cars', Plane Theft

Also: Mercy Flight Southeast Raffle, DA42 MPP GeoStar, Universal Airspeed Indicator, CBP Buys 16 H125s

DeLand, Fl, got hammered this past week... first by a tornado that did extensive damage to the city and its residents and businesses, and then later in the week, severe storms hammered the popular airport best known for being the home of the annual DeLand Sport Aviation Showcase.

Airport officials noted that, "Three aircraft were severely damaged at DeLand Municipal Airport after a storm producing gusts of more than 70 mph ripped through north DeLand Thursday night. At around 6:35 p.m., the storm, which produced a wind gust of up to 72 miles per hour according to a National Weather Service station at the airport, flipped one plane upside down and severely damaged two others. Several other planes sustained minor damage from flying debris. Secretary of the Air Force Barbara Barrett, Chief of Staff of the Air Force Gen. Charles Q. Brown, Jr., and Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force JoAnne S. Bass came together to witness the advances in electric vertical takeoff and landing flight (eVTOL) at Camp Mabry, Aug. 20. Exactly 112 years after the Wright Brothers delivered their first military aircraft, top Air Force leaders gathered with their Texas National Guard hosts and AFWERX personnel to watch the first Agility Prime ORB flight demonstration. Stolen at 7:00. Departed by 8:00. Lost communication before 10:00. Crashed around midnight. Such was the wild night for the Cessna 150 taken from Jefferson County International Airport in Port Townsend, WA and crashed near the coast of Washington, roughly 150 miles away. The small aircraft was found crashed in the trees just a few miles away from Quileute airport, and the pilot, unconscious, airlifted from the site to a Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
