NASA Cruises at FL 700+

ER-2 Pilots are, in Actuality, Astronauts

A high-altitude NASA ER-2 Earth Resources aircraft will be on display at Oshkosh during the show that starts next week. The highly-instrumented NASA research aircraft will be displayed at AeroShell Square adjacent to the "Countdown to Kittyhawk" pavilion at AirVenture from July 29 through August 4.

NASA's two ER-2 aircraft are flying laboratories that collect information about our surroundings, including Earth resources, celestial observations, oceanic processes, and atmospheric chemistry and dynamics. A civil derivative of the military U-2S, the ER-2 is capable of sustained flight above 70,000 feet altitude.

Several NASA personnel will be on hand at the EAA AirVenture venue to discuss the program with news media. Among those will be NASA ER-2 pilots Jim Barrilleaux, Dee Porter and Dave Wright, and Airborne Science director Dr. Thomas Mace will be on hand at various times to speak with media as well.
