JAL Ordered To Make Corrections After 'Dangerous Incidents'

One Example: Taking Off Without Clearance

A stern warning and shake of the finger to Japan Airlines (JAL) and its parent company from the government in Tokyo, which issued what it calls an "operational correction" to the company over a series of what Japanese media reports called "dangerous incidents."

The Mainichi Daily News reports "operational corrections" are among the most serious warnings the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Traffic can issue in dealing with what it sees as transportation problems.

The Daily News reports one incident for which such a correction was issued involved a JAL aircraft that began its take-off roll at Shinchitose Airport in Hokkaido last January.  A similar incident involving a JAL aircraft occurred at Incheon Airport in South Korea on March 11th, according to the report.

It was the first time JAL had received such a government warning since February, 1999, when its mechanics used the wrong type of lubricant in some of its aircraft.
