Fix Is Free If You're Fast Enough
Glasair Aviation has just released a service
bulletin (#157) describing a manufacturing flaw in 200 HP GII-RG
engine mounts.
It's posted in the Glasair.org filesbase or on the
glasairaviation.com web site. Repair or replacement is offered for
free if acted on by May 31, 2005.
Service Bulletin 157
Subject: Glasair IIS 200hp RG Engine Mounts;
Part No.: 222-0269-103
Applicability: Engine mounts delivered between
June, 2001 and March 2005
Compliance Time: By May 31, 2005 as described
below.
Discussion and Background Information: Glasair
Aviation has recently discovered an inadvertent change was made to
the engine mounts by our outside vendor. This change may affect the
fit of the upper cowl with respect to the height of the upper tube
between the upper two dynafocal mounts. Thus far, there has been
only one known case of interference.
Required Action: If you have already installed
the engine mount and you have determined there exists satisfactory
clearance between the described center tube and the upper cowl as
shown in Figure 1, no further action is required.
If you have not completed installing the engine mount and the
cowling on the aircraft, it is required you measure the height of
the upper tube relative to the upper two firewall mounting points
before continuing with the firewall forward installation.
The mount can be measured on the ground or hung on the firewall
if that is an option. The maximum distance between the top surface
of the center tube to a horizontal centerline defined by the two
upper engine mount attach points on the firewall should be
approximately 2.75 inches as shown in Figure 1. This would place
the top of the tube at approximately waterline 107.75.
The mounts that were modified would have a noticeable error of
approximately 1-1.5” higher than this dimension. This would
place the measured dimension at approximately 3.75 –
4”, which would equate to waterline 108.75 or higher.
Figure 1: Measurements on acceptable mounts.
What to do if your mount exceeds the acceptable
range:
If your measurement exceeds this acceptable dimension as
discussed above, you are required to return the engine mount
directly to the engine mount vendor. If you respond to this service
bulletin by May 31, 2005, your mount will be repaired (or replaced)
and returned at no charge to you.
If you return your mount after the May 31, 2005 deadline, you
will be responsible for all repair and shipping charges.
Ship the mounts fully protected and enclosed in an acceptable
box to:
