Mountain Air Invites Pilots To Experience The Lifestyle And Attend Aviation Seminars September 4-6
Mile-High Community in the North Carolina Blue Ridge Hosts the “Cleared for Take-off
Experience” at the Highest Runway East of the Rocky Mountains.
In celebration of its Silver Anniversary this year, Mountain Air Country Club is welcoming pilots and their families from across the country to experience the thrill of flying in to one of the most dramatic, mountaintop runways in the world, while also taking advantage of a weekend of aviation seminars where they can earn Wings – Pilot Proficiency Credits.
The weekend is called the “Cleared for Take-Off Experience” and brings together guests and club members in both learning opportunities and enjoying the myriad amenities and family activities at Mountain Air. The weekend includes a Static Air Show, Golf Tournament, Hot Air Balloon Rides, Wine Tasting, Cinema on the Runway, Cookout at Orville & Wilbur’s Bar & Grill, Showcase of Homes, plus hiking, tennis, wellness and nature programs.
Perched nearly a mile in the sky and framed by the 6,684-foot peak of Mount Mitchell, the Mountain Air runway is the highest east of the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of 4,919 feet. The runway 2,875 feet long and can accommodate turbo-props.
Aviation seminars will be conducted by Richard Phillips, FAA Frontline Manager for the Greer Tower at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport; George Perry, Senior Vice President of the AOPA Air Safety Institute and CDR USN (Ret); and Tom Freeman, Aviation Safety Specialist for NCDOT Aviation.
