LA's Proud Bird Restaurant Becoming A High-End Food Court

Restaurant Slated For Reopening Later This Year

The Proud Bird Restaurant, which overlooks the runway at KLAX, is in the middle of a planned 10-month renovation that will bring a variety of food vendors to the well-known space.

The restaurant, which has operated adjacent to the LA airport since 1967, is becoming a 50,000 square foot food megaplex. But fans of the old restaurant will be happy to know that there will be an homage to the Proud Bird included in the redesign, with chef Lauren Kyles reimagining dishes served by the former eatery.

Patrons will still be able to watch the planes take off and land at KLAX through floor-to-ceiling windows offering a panoramic view of the runways. There will also be six banquet rooms and a main ballroom, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times.

Visitors will be greeted by a replica of a P-40 in Flying Tigers livery suspended from the ceiling of the space. There will be other aviation memorabilia as well.

The new food complex is slated to open later this year.
