Aero-TV: Tru Trak’s ECO & AEP - Innovative, Affordable, Diminutive, And Cool!

An Autopilot Small Enough For An Ultralight...

Finally, a little autopilot that simply lets you go hands-free to relax and manage other cockpit duties. Better yet, the price is right. While at the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo 2016, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, stopped at the TruTrak display to talk with Andrew Barker, the president and CEO of TruTrak flight systems.

Their autopilot system, ECO, can do the things you expect from an autopilot like heading hold, altitude hold, and GPS tracking, but it also has another nice feature that they call AEP, which stands for “Automatic Envelope Protection.” This feature allows programmed limits to be placed into the autopilot to limit pitch and bank angles.

Designed for the home built experimental market, this entry-level autopilot only costs about $1,000 and uses a unique servomotor trim tab control system rather than a complicated system that couples on to the aircraft primary flight controls. And oh yes, the entire installation is so light that can be installed on an ultralight.

The video provides a demonstration of how this thing works, and we are pretty sure you’ll be amazed at the innovation.
