IMC Club Awards Its First Annual Proficiency Scholarship

Florida Member Is The Raffle Grand Prize Winner

Over thirty IMC Club’s Inner Marker fellows participated in a raffle for this year’s Grand Prize of a one thousand dollar proficiency scholarship. The IMC Club awarded this year’s Proficiency Scholarship to Matt Lockhart.

The Inner Marker Circle is an elite group of pilots dedicated to the consistent and constant improvement of their instrument flying skills, going beyond currency requirements to achieve proficiency. To qualify for the Inner Marker Circle you must be a current IMC Club International member and have flown at least one instrument approach every month for six months prior to your application. Flights can be in IMC, under simulated instrument conditions or in a FAA Certified AATD Flight Simulator.

In addition to a special membership card, Inner Marker member participants are automatically enrolled in a drawing for a number of valuable awards, among them the Annual Proficiency Scholarship.

Matt Lockhart, the winner of this year scholarship, began flying when he was 18 after acquiring a love of flying from his dad. Matt earned his private pilot rating in 1994, instrument rating in 1999, and his commercial rating in 2000. His CFI and CFII followed shortly thereafter. Matt graduated from Tarleton State with a BS in Aviation Science and has made flying his profession ever since. He progressed from his instrument ticket, Commercial, CFI and now holds a Multi-Engine rating. Matt has had the opportunity to fly a variety of aircraft. One of his most meaningful assignments was flying a Falcon 20 and transporting the remains of fallen soldiers to their homes around the country, starting from Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. Matt currently lives in southeast Florida with his wife Courtney and son Ben.

The IMC Club awarded this year’s Proficiency Scholarship on Friday, August 2nd at AirVenture 2013 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
