Cali National Guard Aids Stranded San Bernadinians
Rare snowfall in southern California left members of some affected communities stranded, with rescue arriving in the form of Cali National Guard Black Hawks. A late-February blizzard east of Los Angeles slammed the San Bernardino Mountain range, where thousands of people live in forest communities or recreational getaways. Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency after parts of the state were sacked in with more than 8 feet of snow, trapping some in their homes as crews worked around the clock to clear roads and highways.
While F-16 Deliveries Far From Guaranteed, Evaluation Could Determine Training Curriculum
A pair of Ukrainian pilots made their way to the US to be evaluated for possible training or advice for the country's air forces. So far, only 2 pilots have been brought over to Tucson, Arizona, where they will operate the F-16 simulators on premises. Up to 10 more of their comrades may join them in the coming weeks. The effort doesn't necessarily have a nailed down goal, being intended as a kind of survey of Ukrainian skills.
Tactical VTOL Prototype Hoped to Become Sovereign Ozzie Platform
BAE Systems unveiled the Strix, their contender for the tactical, multi-role UAS running at this year's Avalon Airshow. The Strix is a tandem wing, VTOL drone capable of hauling 160 kg (~353 lbs) of payload almost 500 miles, while being compacted down into a standard 20' shipping container. Compatible munitions will vary, but the principal interest is the RAZER, a low-cost, precision guided munition that would be delivered with the final design.
