Planes of Fame Museum Rescued

Fire Halted Before Destroying Vintage Aircraft

The California location of the Planes of Fame Air Museum was narrowly rescued on January 5, when the combined efforts of local Chino Valley Fire District firefighters and an effective sprinkler system extinguished a fire within a nearby hangar at Chino Airport. The blaze was stopped before any direct damage could be done, said Museum Director Jerry Wilkins. The fire was reported around 5:30 in the evening, a fire taking place adjacent to 2 of the museum's parked aircraft. Wilkins said some contents of the hangar were burned, but a full assessment remains to be completed to discover the extent of the damage.

509th Bomb Wing Says Attention Better Placed on its Bomb-Slinging Readiness Duties

Whiteman Air Force Base canceled their Wings Over Whiteman Air and Space Show which was expected to be scheduled for June 2022. Air Force brass said the decision was made to allow their personnel to focus on their mission priorities. Putting on an airshow is an unnecessary distraction from their duties, said a statement from the 509th Bomb Wing Public Affairs Office. "For now, Whiteman Air Force Base will focus our resources on executing nuclear operations and global strike…anytime, anywhere," said the wing at a time of tensions across the globe. The Whiteman show was a fan favorite for locals looking forward to seeing the 509th's B-2 Spirits in action.<

Bell-Boeing Wins Osprey Maintenance Contract

$1.64 Billion Slated for Maintenance, Parts, Logistics, Repairs For V-22 Fleet

A joint venture between Bell Helicopter and Boeing has secured a contract for parts and components for the V-22 Osprey fleet. The Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support granted the job valued at $1.64 billion. The contract will support the V-22 in all its different guises in all arms, serving the Marine Corps, Navy, and Air force. The contract in its current form should be completed by December 2026. Bell-Boeing will provide for the repair, replacement, required availability, configuration management, and inventory management to support all 228 of the Ospreys in inventory across all its variants including the MV-22B, CMV-22, and CV-22.
