Beech 18 To Be Used In New Testing

Almost 100 years after American aviator Amelia Earhart took her first flight, her resting place has yet to be found but a local aviation group is helping to find an answer. It’s one of aviation’s greatest mysteries, what happened to Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan, after they disappeared over the Pacific Ocean during her final flight in 1937. Dynamic Aviation has loaned its Beechcraft Model-18 aircraft to be used in new testing performed by Nauticos, a deep ocean exploring organization and Collins Radio Engineers off of Cape Charles, Va.

NTSB Prelim: Champion 8KCAB

Airplane Then Rolled Right And Inverted And Exited The Roll Maneuver In A Nose-Low Attitude

On September 13, 2020, about 1100 central daylight time (CDT), an American Champion 8KCAB, N83DH, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Groton, South Dakota. The commercial pilot and passenger sustained fatal injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 personal flight. According to a witness, after takeoff, the airplane accelerated down the runway in ground effect before the nose pitched up to an estimated 45° angle. The airplane then rolled right and inverted and exited the roll maneuver in a nose-low attitude prior to impact with the ground.

AD: McCauley Propeller Systems

AD 2020-19-06 Rompted By Reports Of An Unapproved Variant McCauley Idler Gear Bearing

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain model McCauley Propeller Systems (McCauley) governors installed on airplanes. This AD was prompted by reports of an unapproved variant McCauley idler gear bearing, part number (P/N) A-20028, that could be installed in the affected governors. This AD requires replacing the governor with a governor that is eligible for installation. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products. This AD is effective November 3, 2020.
