FAA To Begin Evaluation Of Unleaded Fuels For GA

Agency Has Received Proposals For Nine Potential Replacements For Avgas

The FAA announced Thursday it has received nine replacement fuel proposals from producers Afton Chemical Company, Avgas LLC, Shell, Swift Fuels and a consortium of BP, TOTAL and Hjelmco, for further evaluation in the Piston Aviation Fuels Initiative (PAFI), an industry-government initiative designed to help the general aviation industry transition to an unleaded aviation gasoline.

Avidyne Ends Early-Purchase Program, Announces $500 Rebate

Avidyne says the certification process for the IFD540 is "officially in the home stretch" on its journey to FAA approval. "We have reached ‘Red Label’ status," the company said in an eBulletin released to the media. "The FAA has scheduled flight tests for the week of July 14 in Melbourne FL.  That is the same week and location as the DO-200A Compliance Audit."

FAA Clarifies AOA Indicator Installation Policy

Policy Allows Angle Of Attack Installations Without An STC

In February, the FAA issued a press release announcing that angle of attack (AOA) indicators would be eligible for certification under industry consensus standards rather than traditional avionics certification rules. Shortly after the press release was issued, EAA wrote to the FAA requesting clarification on the installation of these safety devices, asking whether the FAA would permit AOA system installations as a minor alteration to spur widespread adoption of this technology.
