Airborne 07.11.14: FAA Works UL Fuels Issue, Skycraft Update, Avidyne IFD540

The FAA announced yesterday it has received ten replacement fuel proposals from producers Afton Chemical Company, Avgas LLC, Shell, Swift Fuels and a consortium of BP, TOTAL and Hjelmco, for further evaluation in the Piston Aviation Fuels Initiative. Last month, SkyCraft Airplanes declared to the FAA that its SD-1 Minisport is compliant with all ASTM specifications for Light Sport Aircraft certification. Aero-News: Quote Of The Day (07.14.14)

"The FAA has received a report of a pilot inadvertently switching off a fuel selector valve while landing a Piper Model PA-28-180C airplane, in December 2011, resulting in a crash with one serious injury and substantial airplane damage. The incident was attributed to the pilot inadvertently selecting the off position of the fuel selector valve and a lack of fuel selector valve maintenance."
